Living Strong

A man diagnosed for testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs, abdomen and brain with a survival chances of less than 50% who not only survived from the clutches of the disease, which in itself was a great miracle, but went on to pursue his career and excelled in it like no other. His name is Lance Armstrong who won the cycling competition ‘Tour de France’ SEVEN times in a row starting 1999 to 2005 setting a grand new record that is still waiting to be broken.

In his first competition after recovery from the cancer, Lance had to leave the race in the middle as he was not yet ready. He used this set back to train himself harder for a strong comeback – he paused but did not quit. He never let the cancer dent his spirit. He was not content by just participating in the race but he wanted to show the entire world that he is still a champion and he proved that by winning his first ‘Tour de France’. Whole world was stunned at this amazing comeback of a cancer survivor who not only defeated the deadly disease but also emerged as a world champion. He then went on to win six more ‘Tour de France’ titles in a row.

He is a success on the track and off the track. He found Lance Armstrong Foundation to help other cancer patients around the world and create awareness among the general public. He created a motto called ‘Live Strong’ uniting people around the world who are suffering with this deadly disease and those who are fighting for the cause of helping the cancer patients. His yellow wristband “LIVESTRONG” has become very popular and sold over sixty million bands*. Nike partnered with him creating ‘Nike LIVESTRONG’ collection. Lance goal is to make the ‘fight against cancer a global priority’ and he is doing everything to make that possible.

“The best thing that ever happened to me” says Lance while referring to the setback caused by the cancer. This set back gave his life a whole new purpose. It is hard to come across a person like Lance who has taken the worst thing imaginable and turned it to one of his best in life. He showed that a man becomes stronger not just by physical endurance but more so by hope and a strong belief. He is an inspiration everyone to take up that attitude. He is more than a survivor and a champion for many in the world, he is a real HERO.

Lance has won many awards and in 2008 he was named as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by ‘Times Magazine’ and rightly so. Lance has become an inspiration and hope to millions around the world. He encourages those who are fighting this disease by setting an example. His story moves many to take control of their lives and NOT to succumb to any condition – physical and/or mental. Lance is a STRONG inspiration for people to LIVESTRONG.

Lance’s journey has not stopped yet, in 2008, he declared to the entire world that he is coming back to race again and this time he is coming back for his friend and to create a Global Awareness about LIVESTRONG mission.
